We’re thrilled that you’ve decided to visit the Sanctuary! Make yourself at home at Best Friends.

Best Friends Animal Sanctuary is home to up to 1,600 dogs, cats, birds, bunnies, horses, pigs and other animals on any given day, each one of whom is delighted you cared enough to come explore this unique oasis of hope and healing. Thank you for sharing your time with us — and with them — and for being part of their special journey.

Not sure where to begin? Check out this section for suggestions and ideas on planning your trip. Please know that tours and volunteer shifts tend to fill up quickly, so we recommend booking these and other activities in advance. It’s easy to do using the links below.

Stay with Best Friends

There are a variety of pet-friendly places to stay when visiting Best Friends. Spots tend to fill up well in advance, so we encourage you to reserve early.

The Best Friends Roadhouse and Mercantile, our newest accommodations, is located in the town of Kanab, just a short drive from the Sanctuary. Or make yourself at home at one of Best Friends’ cottages, cabins or RV sites, all conveniently located on the Sanctuary grounds.

Reserve tours

If you've never visited before, a tour is the best way to take in the beauty of the canyon while also getting an overview of the different parts of the Sanctuary.

From grand tours of the entire Sanctuary to more focused tours of our animal care areas, we offer plenty of opportunities to check out all there is to see, ranging from cats and dogs who are learning how joyful life can be to birds, pigs, bunnies and horses who are receiving the TLC they need to heal and grow.

Note: Walk-ins are not permitted at our animal care areas, so scheduling a tour is the best way to see the animals. It doesn’t happen often, but occasionally a tour or event is canceled due to weather conditions or other unforeseen circumstances.

Sign up to volunteer

Join the thousands of people who come from all over the world every year to volunteer with the animals at the Sanctuary.

There are plenty of ways to make a difference — from strolling with a dog to sprucing up a rabbit run to simply sitting and keeping a shy cat company.

Bring home your new best friend

Change the world for a homeless pet. Be part of the lifesaving movement by adopting a furry (or feathered) friend from Best Friends Animal Sanctuary.

The Sanctuary is home to up to 1,600 animals on any given day, including dogs, cats, horses, birds, rabbits and pigs, all hoping to find devoted humans of their very own.

Schedule a sleepover

Consider giving an adoptable dog or cat some one-on-one time.

You can host a sleepover at your pet-friendly accommodations, such as the Best Friends Roadhouse and Mercantile or a Best Friends cottage or cabin.

Spend the day with a Dogtown resident

Need some canine company while exploring Kanab and its surroundings? Or looking to get to know an adoptable pup a bit better?

During a volunteer shift, you can take a dog from the Sanctuary on an outing. Hike in the canyon, take a trip into town or just hang out in your hotel and snuggle.

Once you sign up, check your email for a link to the form you’ll need to complete. If you’ve volunteered with us before, you can simply log in to your volunteer account to schedule your outing.

Schedule a placement

If you have lost a beloved pet, please accept our sincere condolences.

We are here to assist if you wish to make arrangements for placement of your pet at Angels Overlook or Angels Rest.
