Dr. Susan Konecny, medical director
Dr. Susan Konecny brings a wealth of animal welfare, shelter medicine and management experience to her new position of medical director at Best Friends. She describes her passion in veterinary medicine as “helping animals and those who love them to achieve their full potential and live an enriched and contented life." Her combined medical expertise and leadership skills will be a tremendous addition to our staff, and we look forward to her providing guidance to our incredible medical team, as we work to Save Them All.
Dr. Susan has relocated to Kanab from Thompson’s Station, Tennessee, where since February of 2014 she was veterinary director for the Pet Feeding Center, one of the global innovation centers of Mars Petcare, Inc. Prior to that she spent nearly six years as director of medical services for the Southern Oregon Humane Society in Medford, Oregon. She also owned her own mobile veterinary medical and wellness service in Jacksonville, Oregon, as well as holding a number of other prominent veterinary positions.
She earned her doctor of veterinary medicine degree (with honors) from the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of California at Davis. She also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing (summa cum laude) from the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Susan also cared for humans as an RN for eight years before she pursued her current career, which has provided a unique perspective of both human and veterinary medicine.
