Emanating all the glitz and glamour of any Hollywood red carpet event, a stunning, star-studded pack of VIPs (Very Important Pits) will strut their stuff tomorrow, Friday, at 10:30 a.m. at Salt Lake County Animal Services, 511 W. 3900 S.

Dogs will be dripping in diamonds, swathed in sequins and bedecked with beads, boas and bowties as they saunter the red carpet, complete with pawparazzi.

With a nod to the upcoming Academy Awards, Salt Lake County Animal Services and Best Friends Animal Society are honored to host this first annual Pawscars, to bring attention to some of the magnificent pit bull terrier-type dogs who so-far have been snubbed by adopters.

Several dazzling dogs have been nominated for awards, and Charlie, Phoenix, Petey, Rusty, Milano, Heidi, and Bella are competing for the titles of Best Supporting Male and Best Lead Female. The kennels of all of these sensational celebs are adorned with fun, film-themed décor.

Fans of these stylish stars are invited to come to the shelter to vote for their favorite. Those who voted for the winning canine who has not been adopted by February 26 will be entered in a drawing to win restaurant gift cards, tee shirts and other prizes. More information and photos of the dogs are available at www.facebook.com/slcopitcrew. Anyone who adopts one of the nominated dogs will go home with a fabulous furry friend and swag bag of goodies.

Best Friends works with Salt Lake County Animal Services and humane groups all across the country to bring about a time when there are No More Homeless Pets®. The Pit Crew partnership hopes to help save the lives and improve the image and treatment of pit bull terrier-type dogs and other shorthaired muscular mutts.
