People love their pets and consider them family. In fact, the human-animal bond is so strong that many people experiencing homelessness will not access services like emergency shelter if their pets aren't allowed to come with them.

During these challenging times, when even more people are unhoused or at risk of becoming unhoused, the risk is even higher that Californians will have to make the heartbreaking decision to give up their pet in order to have a safe place to sleep.

California Senate Bill 513 creates a permanent grant program for facilities that provide shelter, food, and basic veterinary services for pets of people experiencing homelessness. This important legislation has already passed the Senate and is now in the Assembly.
