Thank your representative for his leadership around breed-based insurance restrictions!
As a member of the National Council of Insurance Legislators (NCOIL), Rep. Cahill introduced a model act to protect dog owners from breed-based insurance restrictions.
Given the numerous peer-reviewed scientific studies that show breed is not a factor in behavior, homeowners/renters insurance companies should not be allowed to inquire about the breed or mix of dog owned on a property.
Several states — including New York, Nevada, and most recently, Arizona — have passed laws on this topic; the NCOIL model act will help others follow suit.
