Community Engagement Manager for Best Friends in Los Angeles
Sheila McLalin is the community engagement manager for Best Friends in Los Angeles and a member of the team leading the Best Friends NKLA initiative, with the goal to make L.A. no-kill in 2017.
Initially starting out as a dog caregiver, Sheila showed a knack for working with people and quickly moved into the role of volunteer coordinator, which involved overseeing volunteer programming for the Best Friends Pet Adoption Center based in Mission Hills, California. Not long after, she began managing all of Best Friends’ Los Angeles–based volunteer programs as volunteer department lead.
Her dedication and passion for the mission shined through, and in 2015 she transitioned into her current position of community engagement manager. In this role, Sheila oversees the volunteer and foster programs, as well as shelter outreach, which focuses on Los Angeles Animal Services. A large part of her job involves creating and implementing innovative programs to continue to push the boundaries of the lifesaving work that’s being done in Los Angeles.
