Respecting every individual animal life has been the hallmark of Dr. Sheila D’Arpino’s work. As the first graduate in the nation to complete the postgraduate shelter animal behavior specialty training program from the Maddie’s Shelter Medicine Program at the University of California, Davis, Dr. D’Arpino knows a thing or two about shelter animals. As director of research for Maddie’s Fund and a veterinarian and board-certified veterinary behaviorist with over 30 years of industry experience, she has paved a path for homeless pets with her work in animal welfare, enrichment, and finding homes for difficult-to-place pets. Valuing every dog and cat as an individual, with all their imperfections, is what makes her such a ground-breaker in the animal welfare industry and an incredible asset for Maddie’s Fund.
