Since June 2016, Alexis Pugh has been the director of Memphis Animal Services MAS, the city of Memphis municipal openintake animal shelter and animal control agency. Prior to her appointment as MAS administrator, Alexis served as executive director for first the Humane Society of Memphis amp Shelby County and then for MidSouth Spay amp Neuter Services, leading both organizations to recordsetting service providing. She has continued that recordsetting in her role at MAS with her and the MAS teams efforts to eliminate euthanasia for space and improve MASs save rate. MAS has not euthanized a cat, small dog or puppy for space in over two years. In 2018, the shelters save rate was 88 percent, and the shelter has seen a number of months at or above 90 percent. Ten years ago, the save rate was 19 percent. Alexis lives with her two rescued dogs, Wilma and Evaline, her hospice foster Redford, and her husband Wes and threeyearold daughter Marley.
