Dogs Playing for Life

Emily Grossheider, CAWA, is chief innovation officer for Dogs Playing for Life (DPDL). Her life with animals was fostered from a young age in Northern California, where her family housed a variety of cats and a special mutt named Clayton. After graduating from University of California, Santa Barbara, she was executive director at two different animal shelters on the Central California coast. In her ongoing efforts to improve the training of her staff and ultimately enrich the lives of the animals in her charge, she met the Dogs Playing for Life team, which she enthusiastically joined as director of development in 2015. Since then, she has earned accreditation as a certified animal welfare administrator (CAWA), been promoted to chief innovation officer at DPFL and earned a master’s in public administration with an emphasis in nonprofit management. She has been honored to speak to animal welfare professionals at national conferences and work with them in shelters across the country. Residing in Santa Barbara, California, Emily likes to spend free time on the beach, traveling to the mountains to visitfriends and family or teaching her nieces and nephew how to beg their mothers for (another) rescue puppy.
