Director of Veterinary Services
Dr. Jen Wilcox is the director of vet services for Pima Animal Care Center PACC in Tucson, Arizona. After completing a Ph.D. in conservation genetics at the University of Colorado, Dr. Wilcox volunteered at a local shelter during years of postdoctoral research at the University of Arizona. The shelter animals compelled her to shift her professional goals, and she finished her veterinary degree at the University of Wisconsin in 2008. She returned to Tucson and eventually became the medical director at Humane Society of Southern Arizona, then moved to PACC as their first shelter vet. As the largest openadmission municipal shelter in southern Arizona, PACC presented abundant challenges. Infectious disease, inadequate sanitation and overcrowding were common. Community support of PACC shifted dramatically in 2014 when lifesaving medical stories became widely broadcast and foster and TNR programs were successfully launched. Dr. Wilcox, her husband Craig, and their two kids share their desert home with seven dogs and three cats, plus canine and feline foster pets.
