Director of Animal Services
Jessica Arias, an experienced leader in animal welfare, is driven by a passion for transforming community animal welfare and leading agencies to new levels of success through compassion and kindness. She currently serves as a mentor with Best Friends Animal Society's shelter mentorship program assisting other North Carolina agencies to reach higher levels of lifesaving, is the director of animal services for the City of Burlington, North Carolina, and has served in various board roles including chair of the nonprofit, North Carolina Animal Federation. Jessica is a recent recipient of the Triad Business Journal's 40 under 40 award for her accomplishments in Burlington that transformed the agency into one of the few public shelters in North Carolina to achieve and sustain greater than 90% lifesaving through innovative strategies, programming, and for spearheading a public-private partnership to construct a multimillion-dollar state-of-the-art pet adoption and resource center. Jessica’s other passions include international travel, culture and society outside the U.S., and her dog, Stewart. She is a certified animal welfare administrator, and her educational background is in conflict analysis and resolution, and sociology. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of North Carolina Greensboro.
