Marla Browne found her way to Best Friends by way of a sata the Puerto Rican word for street dog named Rio. Finding Rio on the streets of San Juan set in motion the first domino on the course that ultimately led Marla to Best Friends. After completing her graduate degree in Spanish translation, she first volunteered for Best Friends virtually, then later visited and volunteered at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. In 2010, she was hired in Dogtown as a caregiver and later as team lead. Four years later, she worked remotely as a specialist with the Best Friends Network until 2018, when she became a community cat programs manager. Marla is also provisionally licensed as a wild bird rehabilitator.
