Assistant Director of Operations

St. Tammany Parish Animal Services

Penny Brunies is the assistant director of operations for the St. Tammany Department of Animal Services. She has worked for St. Tammany Parish Department of Animal Services for 14 years, starting in the position of secretary/dispatch in 2008. During a transition period starting in 2020, she took a direct role in restructuring the parish shelter to allow for more animals to have the chance at adoption or be transferred to partnering rescue groups. In 2021, she led the way for St. Tammany Parish to adopt a community cat ordinance. These efforts have significantly increased the live release rate for St. Tammany Parish’s only open admission shelter. She is responsible for the daily operations of the shelter and its personnel. She currently resides in Albany, Louisiana, with her husband, Heath, and son, Matthew.
