Sheila (D'Arpino) Segurson
Director of Research
As director of research for Maddies Fund, Dr. Sheila Segurson DArpinos goal is to develop and support research that increases pet adoptions from rescue groups and shelters and improves pet wellbeing. She relies upon her background working in animal shelters, pet foster care programs, and veterinary medicine to lead Maddies Fund research efforts. After graduating from the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of California, Davis UC Davis, Sheila worked as a general practice, emergency and shelter veterinarian at vet hospitals in California. In 2005, she graduated from Maddies Shelter Medicine Program at UC Davis, becoming the first in the nation to complete a threeyear, postgraduate behavior specialty training program with an emphasis on shelter animals and shelter behavior programs. Since that time, she has worked for several animal welfare organizations, including the UC Davis Koret Shelter Medicine Program, the Sacramento SPCA, the University of Floridas Maddies Shelter Medicine Program and the Animal Rescue League of Boston.
