Grassroots Advocacy Specialist
Kaitlyn Simmons is the Grassroots Advocacy Specialist for Best Friends Animal Society. Before coming to Best Friends, she worked out of an Atlanta municipal shelter and coordinated their volunteer, rescue and transport initiatives, which highlighted a need for grassroots-level community engagement to support animal lifesaving as a community initiative. In her current role with Best Friends, she works on grassroots community organizing to further national awareness, gather political will to support animal lifesaving, and build an inclusive and diverse animal welfare force across the nation. Kaitlyn received her master’s degree in anthrozoology studying the complex relationships between humans and animals, which culminated in publishing a thesis on long-distance animal transports. She lives in Atlanta with her six cats, her partner and a rotation of foster animals.
