Adopt a shelter pet event in Houston

Make it the best day ever: April 29-30

Nearly 90,000 dogs and cats enter shelters throughout the greater Houston area each year. With so many cats, kittens, dogs, and puppies of all types and personalities your new best friend is as close as your local shelter.

That’s why Best Friends in Houston has teamed up with shelter partners throughout the greater Houston community for a citywide adoption event happening April 29-30 to celebrate National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day. 

During this special adoption event, shelter partners are offering reduced-fee and fee-waived adoptions.

Adopt a pet in Houston and save a life

When you choose to adopt a local Houston pet you are making a meaningful difference in their life and a lifesaving impact.

During your shelter visit, be sure to find the Best Friends table to get your commemorative paw print card, treats for adopted pets and their humans, and the chance to snap a photo in the selfie station. 

The first 100 people to adopt from one of the participating shelter partners will receive a free swag bag filled with goodies to celebrate their new best friend. 

Make sure to visit these participating shelters during their normal operation hours. You can call ahead or visit each shelter’s website for information about special incentives and adoption fee discounts.

All adopters are eligible to be entered into a giveaway to win a prize worth up to $600*.

Three cat supply and three dog supply giveaways will include free food, vouchers for grooming or wellness, treats, toys, beds, and more! Each adopter during the event will be invited to fill out a ticket to be entered into the giveaway. Winners will be announced during a Facebook Live on May 2 at 6 p.m. CDT. Before taking a lost pet to your local shelter, visit a veterinarian to see if the pet has a microchip. Then use social media to try to reunite the pet with their family.
