Welcome Midland, Texas! Get to know Best Friends.
Best Friends Animal Society is bringing tangible lifesaving tactics to shelters and rescue groups across the country.
Based on a foundation of compassion and inclusion, we're working together to help both pets and people. We want to make sure that everyone has the same access to loving pets and that every adoptable pet has the opportunity to thrive in the comfort of a foster home.
Fix West Texas
Best Friends is supporting the work of Fix West Texas by helping to make a more robust kitten foster program to support the lifesaving work in Midland, Texas. Best Friends is excited to collaborate with Fix West Texas to help save the lives of kittens and cats.
Working in conjunction with Fix West Texas, Best Friends is looking for volunteer foster families willing to open their hearts and homes to these tiny kittens and help care for them until they are old enough to be adopted.
If you are interested in fostering, please email fosterwesttexas@bestfriends.org for more information.
Why kittens?
We believe it's important to provide help where it's needed the most to have the largest impact, and in Midland County, we’re focusing on kittens and cats.
Kittens are some of the most at-risk pets in shelters. Shelters need around-the-clock care, something that most shelters are unable to provide. Kittens have fragile immune systems, are unable to regulate their body temperature and need to be fed frequently. Because of their tiny size and low mobility, kittens do not need much room and are an excellent foster option in any size home.

Foster with Best Friends in Midland County + Fix West Texas
The Midland County + Fix West Texas foster program focuses on placing kittens and cats with volunteer foster families. Once the kittens reach eight weeks old and are spayed or neutered, they will be available for adoption in Texas or transferred to a receiving rescue partner organization.
Check out our kitten foster manual, which has additional information on fostering kittens and FAQs.

Working cat adoptions
Some cats and kittens, due to their behavior and the environment to which they were accustomed, will be available for adoption through Fix West Texas’ Working Cat Program. An ideal home for these cats/kittens would be a barn, shed, stable, garage or warehouse.
