The Petco Foundation and Best Friends: A History of Saving Lives Together

“Best Friends has a special connection with the folks at the Petco Foundation, going back to our friendship with Paul Jolly. Since its start, the Petco Foundation has played an incredibly important role in supporting pet adoptions, no-kill programs and innovative lifesaving work around the nation. The Petco Foundation is inspiring all of us to do more and do better for the animals.”

At the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in southern Utah, there’s a special marker that honors a long history of Petco Foundation’s efforts to save pets. It is a road on the Sanctuary grounds named after Paul Jolly, their first executive director. Over the years, the Petco Foundation has invested in Best Friends Super Adoption events, the Best Friends Conference, Strut Your Mutt fundraising events, disaster response, and Network Partner initiatives. Together we’ve saved thousands of lives.

In 2016 and 2017, Petco Foundation sponsored Best Friends Super Adoption events across the country. Super Adoptions bring together shelters and rescue groups throughout an entire community to find loving homes for as many pets as possible.  We have learned a simple, yet powerful fact: to save more lives, the adoption experience for homeless pets and potential adopters needs to be fun, positive, and easy. Super Adoptions do just that by dispelling myths about shelter animals; by making adoption accessible and affordable; and by educating people about the importance of adopting versus buying an animal. The Petco Foundation and Best Friends have saved countless lives over the years together – and we’re just getting started!

About Petco Foundation

At the Petco Foundation, we believe that every animal deserves to live its best life. Since 1999, we’ve invested more than $200 million in lifesaving animal welfare work to make that happen. With our more than 4,000 animal welfare partners, we inspire and empower communities to make a difference by investing in adoption and medical care programs, spay and neuter services, pet cancer research, service and therapy animals, and numerous other lifesaving initiatives. Through our Think Adoption First program, we partner with Petco stores and animal welfare organizations across the country to increase pet adoptions. So far, we’ve helped more than 5.3 million pets find their new loving families, and we’re just getting started. Visit petcofoundation.org to learn more about how you can get involved.
