Beyond volunteering in the animal areas, there are so many other ways your valuable skills can help around the Sanctuary.

While helping to care for the animals is extremely rewarding, many other volunteer projects around Best Friends Animal Sanctuary are just as gratifying.

Whether you’re helping to care for Angels Rest or assisting with various landscaping projects, we have many opportunities to match your skill level and preference.

We're focused on keeping you and our animal friends safe while you're volunteering, so before your trip to the Sanctuary, make sure you've read through what to expect at the Sanctuary and in specific animal areas.

Sanctuary Store volunteer opportunities

Volunteering in the Sanctuary Store is a fun way to engage with visitors from all over the world.

Located in the Best Friends Welcome Center, the Sanctuary Store is a great place to lend a hand if you prefer to work indoors or have mobility challenges.

As a Sanctuary Store volunteer, you can help by checking in merchandise (counting, folding, doing quality inspection, applying price tags), organizing and cleaning the store, helping with physical inventory counts, making price signs for merchandise, and other special projects as needed.

To volunteer at the Sanctuary Store, you need to be at least 18 years old.

To get started, sign up for a shift in our volunteer portal. If you already have a Best Friends volunteer profile, go to the volunteer portal to see opportunities available to you.

Angels Rest volunteer opportunities

As an Angels Rest volunteer, you’ll honor the thousands of beloved animals who have passed by helping to maintain the sacred grounds of their final resting place.

Located in peaceful Angel Canyon, Angels Rest is where you can spend some time helping to honor the memories of the special pets who live on forever in our hearts.

We ask that volunteers in this area are comfortable working outside and understand that much of the work includes kneeling and bending. (We can provide stools and knee pads when needed.)

To volunteer at Angels Rest, you need to be at least 18 years old and you’ll need your own transportation during the shift.

Sign up in our volunteer portal to get started. Once you sign up and complete your volunteer agreement, you can access the full list of volunteer opportunities.

Put your green thumb to use

If you love plants and digging in the earth, we'd love your help ensuring the Sanctuary is beautiful and safe for its inhabitants and visitors.

In addition to all the fluff and the wet noses, the natural beauty of the Sanctuary is why so many people return to visit again and again. Behind the scenes, you'll find many people working hard to care for the Sanctuary grounds.

This is a great way to learn about Angel Canyon’s natural vegetation and underlying ecosystem.

As a landscape department volunteer, your responsibilities might include working with plants in the greenhouse, assisting with and learning about the compost process, shadowing the irrigation team, watering plants (both inside and outside), removing weeds and debris with hand tools, helping with maintenance, and general cleanup.

Shifts begin at Landscaping Headquarters, across from Quincy House in Cat World.

To volunteer with the landscape department, sign up in our volunteer portal. Once you sign up and complete your volunteer agreement, you can access the full list of volunteer opportunities.

Transport homeless pets to safety

When you volunteer to drive a pet from one community where they’re at risk to another community where they’re more likely to get adopted, you’re helping to save the lives of homeless pets.

Transport programs are crucial in preventing killing in shelters because they give at-risk pets lifesaving lifts to areas where they have greater chances of finding homes.

You can be a part of the lifesaving when you volunteer to drive pets to and from the Sanctuary in your vehicle.

To sign up, please email transportkanab@bestfriends.org at least one week prior to your preferred transport time to check for transport needs.

Best Friends Animal Clinic volunteer opportunities

Licensed veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and other medically skilled volunteers may be eligible to volunteer at the Best Friends Animal Clinic with prior arrangements.

Email volunteers@bestfriends.org for more information about volunteering in the Best Friends Animal Clinic.

Volunteers with disabilities are welcome! Contact us to learn about volunteering with a disability; we offer shorter hour-long shifts for anyone interested. Email volunteers@bestfriends.org or call 435-319-0622 with questions or sign up for a shift.
