Adventure awaits: Take an adoptable dog on an outing
We truly appreciate the wonderful work our volunteers do towards making a difference in the animals' lives and would love to welcome you as a volunteer.
Spend some quality time by taking a wonderful pup from Best Friends Animal Sanctuary on an outing. What does it involve? You take one of our approved resident dogs on an activity, such as a hike in the canyon or just hang in your hotel and snuggle. The pup gets some experience out in the "real world" and becomes even more ready for a forever home, while you get to know them better. You never know, it may lead to a sleepover or even an adoption.
To take a dog on an outing
- Our staff can provide guidance and maps for choosing activities best suited for your canine companion.
- If you are staying in a hotel, check in advance to make sure pets are allowed.
- All members of your party must meet the minimum volunteer age requirements for Dogtown (at least 16 years of age).
- Those traveling with personal pets will not be allowed to take sleepover pets.
- Staying in a Best Friends cottage or cabin? You may be able to host an sleepover with a dog or cat. (Please note: Only one animal is allowed per sleepover. Exceptions can be made for bonded pairs of dogs.)
Sign up to volunteer and take a Sanctuary dog on an outing
Outings into town may be limited during holidays and select events because of possible fireworks and crowds that may present safety hazards. Sanctuary animals are not eligible for patio dining, so please make alternate arrangements for meals. Some dogs can go on outings within Sanctuary grounds only.
Can't do an outing? Consider a sleepover with a Sanctuary dog or cat instead.
Volunteer shifts must be scheduled as far in advance as possible. Each animal area has a maximum number of volunteers it can accommodate during each shift. To get started, please visit volunteers.bestfriends.org or contact the Sanctuary Volunteer Department at volunteers@bestfriends.org or 435-319-0622.
