Check-in and checkout
Check-in time for the cabins is anytime after 3 p.m. Your cottage or cabin will be unlocked and your key will be in your room. We will check you in automatically. If you need an additional key, please make sure to check the next morning at the welcome center.
Checkout time is by 11 a.m. at the latest. You can leave your room keys on the hook by the door when you leave. It isn’t necessary to check out at the welcome center, but feel free to stop by for some last-minute gift shopping.
Checkout times are strictly enforced (as much as we dislike those last two words). This is so our small housekeeping crew can make full use of the short time frame for cleaning before new guests arrive. If you plan to take a morning tour or you are volunteering for a morning shift on your checkout date, please have your things packed and tucked away safely in your car ahead of time.
Directions to the cabins
Once you have taken the turn into the Sanctuary and see the sign to the welcome center, look for a sign on the right for the cabins, which are located on your left. After 3 p.m., please go directly to your cabin, which will be unlocked with a key inside. We will check you in automatically.
Parking for one vehicle is available at each cabin. Please park additional vehicles farther up the entrance road to the right of the cabins.
Rates vary, depending on the time of year. Please note that the rates below do not include tax.

Booking and cancellation policies
What if my preferred dates are unavailable?
You can also check availability at the Best Friends Roadhouse and Mercantile or find places to stay in town. Kanab is only five miles from the Sanctuary.
What is the deposit policy?
A valid credit card is required to guarantee all reservations.
What is the reservation modification policy?
If you need to cancel your reservation for any reason, please contact us immediately at firstname.lastname@example.org or 435-644-3400. Please note: A change in the length, dates or number of rooms in your reservation may result in a rate change or additional fees.
What are the policies on cancellation and no-shows?
Cancellations within two days of the arrival date, during a stay or no-shows will be charged one night’s stay per lodging space. Cancellations within 3 to 30 days of the arrival date will be charged a $25 fee per lodging space. There is no charge for cancellations made 31 days or more from the arrival date. If you have not arrived by 3 p.m. on the day following your scheduled check-in date, we may release your cottage or cabin. No refunds, credits or transfers will be given following a no-show.
Can our pets stay in the cabins?
Our cabins can accommodate up to two animal companions. Your pets may be left alone inside while you are volunteering, if they are accustomed to being left unattended and are well-behaved. However, we ask that you please check on them regularly. If your dog tends to bark from boredom or at new sights and sounds, please do not leave him or her in your room unattended. If your pet damages anything in your room, please let us know so that we can replace the item.
Due to abundant wildlife in the area and for the safety of your pets and other animals at the Sanctuary, please always keep your pets leashed when outside. Some of the Sanctuary dogs on sleepovers and in training could become aggressive when approached by an unfamiliar dog. Help these pups-in-training learn to become model citizens. Cats can also go on sleepovers, so you might encounter a feline while out walking.
Amenities and policies
What is the difference between a cabin and a cottage?
The cottages can accommodate up to six guests and include a bedroom with two double beds and two twin-size rollaway beds. The cottages are located by the horse corrals, closer to some of our office buildings and the welcome center. They are more secluded and offer easy access to many walking trails. Each cottage has its own deck or patio. The cabins are much smaller than the cottages and are intended to be occupied by one or two persons. The setup is studio-style with one queen-size Murphy bed. Cabin guests share a patio area. Cabins provide a more economical option for guests on tighter budgets or those who don’t need the extra space and amenities of a cottage.
Will I be able to make long-distance calls?
To make long-distance calls from your room, you will need a calling card, which can be purchased at local Kanab gas stations.
Is laundry service available at the Sanctuary?
There are no on-site laundry facilities, but there is a laundromat in town.
Will I be able to cook in my accommodations?
The cottage kitchens feature a full-size refrigerator, two-burner stove top, built-in microwave, toaster and coffee maker. The cabins have a small kitchenette area with a small refrigerator, microwave, toaster and coffee maker. Open flames (such as campfires and barbecues) are not permitted anywhere on Sanctuary property. Our climate is dry and we cannot risk the safety of our animals.
Can I have extra guests in my cabin?
Nightly rates assume single or double occupancy. Unfortunately, our cabins cannot accommodate more than two people, regardless of age. There is only one queen-size bed, and there isn’t enough space for a cot, air mattress or sleeping bag.
Is smoking allowed?
Our cabins and cottages are non-smoking. Please be considerate of your neighbors if you smoke outside near the cabins or cottages.
Who should I call for housekeeping or maintenance?
Housekeeping services are provided only upon request. If you wish to have your cabin cleaned or you’d like to receive extra towels or bedding at any time during your stay, please contact the housekeeping staff at ext. 4415. If you have an emergency after hours, please call the Best Friends Roadhouse and Mercantile at 435-644-3400.
Is my accommodation accessible?
All cabins are at ground level.
