East Regional Strategist
Erica Chandler
Erica Chandler began her career in animal welfare in 2021 at an animal shelter with a government contract, where she held roles in community support, field services, and communications. As a Community and Animal Support Associate, she worked directly with pets and people through animal intake, owner reunification, pet food distribution, adoptions, and support for court case animals. During Hurricane Ida in 2021, Erica served as an emergency responder at the organization, helping care for animals affected by the disaster.
She later transitioned to the role of Humane Law Enforcement Officer, conducting investigations, animal welfare checks, complaint mitigation, emergency response calls, and court proceedings throughout Orleans Parish. In her final position as Communications Coordinator, Erica managed media relations, appeared in live television segments, contributed articles to local news outlets, and oversaw social media initiatives to promote animal welfare and community engagement.
In April 2023, Erica joined Best Friends Animal Society and now serves as a Regional Strategist overseeing New England, New York, and Delaware, where she partners with animal shelters and animal control agencies to increase lifesaving outcomes. Through personalized engagement, on-site training, program development, regional summits, and virtual initiatives, she helps organizations implement strategic, data-driven approaches that improve outcomes for shelter pets.
Erica is also certified in Animal Search and Rescue, with training in swift water and boat operations. She has deployed in disaster response efforts, including hurricane recovery and wildfire response, and remains passionate about supporting shelters, strengthening communities, and advancing lifesaving across the country. Based in Delaware, she shares her home with her adopted dog, Honey.
