Sparrow is a 2-year-old brown tabby with a face that might make you think he’s perpetually plotting something—but don’t let that serious (and admittedly a little grumpy) expression fool you. Beneath that tough exterior is a sensitive, thoughtful boy who just needs a little time to feel safe. Sparrow is on the shy side and can be cautious in new environments or around new people. He’s the kind of cat who prefers to observe quietly from a cozy hiding spot before deciding you’re worth his trust. But once you give him the patience and understanding he needs, you’ll start to see his softer side come through—gentle blinks, curious glances, and eventually, quiet companionship. He’s not the “instant best friend” type, but for the right person, Sparrow will be incredibly rewarding. Watching him come out of his shell and choose to be near you is something special. He would do best in a calm, low-traffic home with someone who understands that love doesn’t always happen overnight. If you’re willing to go at Sparrow’s pace, you’ll gain a loyal little shadow with a big heart hiding behind that grumpy face!

About Best Friends Animal Society

Best Friends is working to end the killing of dogs and cats in U.S. shelters in part by getting more pets out of shelters and into loving homes.

We’ve come a long way since the first known city reached no-kill in 1994, and now we’re closer than ever to making the entire country no-kill. Of the roughly 3,900 shelters operating in America today, 1,300 of them are not yet no-kill, but nearly half are close with 100 or fewer additional pets to be saved, and we know what to do to get them there.

Best Friends is committed to working with passionate people like you to save homeless pets through adoption, volunteering, fostering, and advocacy. In addition to our lifesaving centers around the U.S, we also founded and run the nation's largest no-kill sanctuary for companion animals.

Working together, we can save homeless pets in our communities and secure a better future for our best friends. Together, we will bring the whole country to no-kill.
