Hiring Range: This position’s hiring range is anticipated to be $78,000 to $88,000 annually, depending on experience, plus great benefits!

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategize, organize, lead and support campaign and legislative efforts to end the systematic cruelty associated with the puppy mill industry and help end the killing of dogs and cats in America’s shelters;
Mobilize key stakeholders and collaborate with the Action Team to ensure No Kill programming and shelter programming is prioritized by appointed and elected officials;
Advocate for and implement local policies and practices that lead to lifesaving efforts of dogs and cats;
Manage the PMI website content and resource materials, as well as any corresponding traditional and social media, marketing and communications strategies;
Work to use all tools available, such as direct action, advocacy, civic engagement, and education to help Save Them All.
Develop strategy including goals, objectives, tactics, and timelines for advocacy and legislative campaigns;
Lead the implementation of various stages of the campaigns and policies;
Co-facilitate/ participate in meetings for existing local coalitions (as needed);
Map the political and legal landscapes of designated localities, which includes participating in ongoing meetings with elected officials;
Build relationships and advocate with key stakeholders and policy makers in priority communities;
Build coalitions and coordinate efforts to advance efforts to stop puppy mills;
Work with advocates and members of the grassroots team to coordinate efforts that break the pet store-puppy mill supply chain
Review community-facing documents, when applicable;
Lead, review, and support communications work for policy campaigns;
Ability to travel as needed
Skills and Experience:
Educational requirements: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience;
At least one year working advocacy experience;
At least one year in campaign managing experience for a political or advocacy campaign;
Experience leading and coordinating coalitions/ strategic alliances;
Experience with campaign planning and project management;
A commitment to reducing the killing of dogs and cats in America’s shelters;
A commitment to ending the systematic cruelty associated with the puppy mill industry;
The ability to create strategic alignment among diverse stakeholder groups;
Proactive at building relationships with organizers, advocates and elected officials in new areas;
Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills;
Demonstrate flexibility in a changing work environment while maintaining effectiveness and efficiency.
Physical Requirements:
Work at a computer or drive a car for extended periods of time with repetitive typing, sitting, arm, and hand motion.
Exposure to dogs, cats and other animals of all sizes, temperaments, and medical status.
Daily hours and days of the week may vary according to the needs of the department schedule; position includes one weekend out the month.
Must have a valid driver's license for at least 3 years, ability to qualify to be added to Best Friends insurance, ability to travel and/or drive on behalf of Best Friends, including overnight stays, when needed.
