IT Project Manager I

Location:   Remote

Hiring Range: This position's hiring range is anticipated to be $70,000 to $80,000 annually, depending on experience, plus great benefits!

Interviews will occur weekly until the position is filled.
 

Summary: A candidate at this level would typically lead small to medium level projects.  Responsible for all aspects of project analysis and management.  Collects and documents business requirements.  Manages technical projects and ensures successful on-time, on-budget delivery of these projects. Responsibilities include determining project scope, timelines, tracking project progress and measuring outcomes. Collaborates with all internal departments, project stakeholders, and vendors to ensure proper alignment to project strategy, budget and objectives. Assists in the management of change to the organization.  Provides progress reports to IT leadership.  Will receive regular guidance from both management and senior level project managers.

Project Initiation:

  • Assists business units in developing project requests with ROI, scope, funding requirements and timeline for approval and prioritization by IT leadership. 
  • Collects and documents requirements, business processes and use cases to ensure project meets business needs.
  • Makes recommendation on process to the business units to ensure effective use of systems.

Project Execution:

  • Develop project charters and plans specifying goals, strategy, dependencies, staffing, scheduling, risk management/contingency plans, communication plans and allocation of resources.
  • Build the work breakdown structure including scheduled deliverables and project milestones.
  • Manage functional and technology resources towards achievement of project goals and timelines, holding them accountable for deliverables.
  • Manage project risk and issues taking corrective action where required.  Report on progress to IT and project leadership.

Change Management:

  • Develop formal change plans based on project impacts.
  • Assist business units and technology personnel in managing change across the organization.
  • Report on change management progress to IT and project leadership.

Best Practices:

  • Keep up-to-date on business analysis/project management and change best practices and put them into practice within the organization.

Administration:

  • Weekly meetings, status reports, other duties as assigned

Skills & Experience:

  • A minimum of 1 year of business analysis experience including gathering detailed business requirements for at least 10 small scale or larger projects
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience managing at least 10 small scale or larger information technology projects end-to-end including maintaining appropriate artifacts (charter, critical path analysis, WBS, project schedule, issue/risk log, project reflection/lessons learned, etc.)
  • A baccalaureate degree in business, computer science, information systems or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Experience creating at least one set of workflows and business process models for a small project
  • Exposure to formal change management methodologies, e.g. Prosci
  • CRM experience in a nonprofit environment a plus
  • PMI and/or Scrum Certification a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage stakeholder expectations/have hard conversations in a professional manner
  • Ability to interface with technical departments
  • Possesses integrity and is able and willing to conduct business in a transparent fashion
  • Ability to work independently and to meet deadlines
  • Willingness to learn new skills, systems and methodologies
  • Ability to conduct project meetings for small scale or larger projects (department level) and to do presentations and public speaking
  • Willingness to embrace continuous improvement and apply lessons learned to subsequent projects
  • Experience planning and implementing QA plans for end-to-end projects
  • Experience building and managing department level teams
  • Experience using project management software for project reporting
  • Experience using Jira, Asana and SharePoint is a plus
  • Ability to learn to professionally advocate Best Friends’ mission and position on issues.

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to work at a computer for extended periods of time with repetitive typing, arm and hand motion.
