Location: Kanab, UT (relocation assistance may be available)

Hiring Range: This position’s hiring range is anticipated to be $58,000 to $62,000 annually, depending on experience, plus great benefits.

Interviews will occur weekly until the position is filled.

Position Summary: Lifesaving & Care Supervisors at Wild Friends play a key role in achieving Best Friends Animal Society’s organizational no-kill mission and goals. Supervisors provide oversight of the health, care, and wellbeing of the animals under our care, along with leadership and mentorship for the care specialists. This position includes daily hands-on care of the animals as well as providing supervision, training, and oversight of staff in their assigned areas. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Promote, coordinate, and facilitate adoptions; drive creative and innovative solutions for hard-to-place animals; provide post adoption support; ensure superior customer service 

  • Support adoptable animal intakes.  

  • Serve as a sanctuary ambassador, representing Best Friends’ work to visitors and volunteers and speaking to the sanctuary’s special role in Best Friends’ No-Kill goals. 

  • Provide leadership, support, mentorship, and coaching for team members and volunteers to ensure all assigned responsibilities are completed. 

  • Serve as a care provider alongside team members ensuring all department objectives for care, health, and behavior training are met.  

  • Provide support to Licensed Wildlife Rehabilitator to ensure state and federal requirements are met. 

  • Participate in annual reviews, develop and deliver corrective actions, when necessary, assist in the hiring process 

  • Work collaboratively, and with a positive attitude, with all Best Friends’ department teams for the care, benefit, promotion, and ultimate outcome of all animals in our care.  

  • Identify opportunities for department improvements relating to workflow, facilities, animal movement, and other objectives. 

  • Demonstrate kindness and the golden rule in our everyday actions by practicing inclusion and respect for every person for the value they bring to the table. Be supportive and lead your team with clarity, creativity, and understanding.  

  • Maintain a safe workplace, valuing and modeling safe work practices, adhering to organizational safety practices and rules, and communicating about unsafe practices and conditions. 

 

Skills and Experience: 

  • A minimum of one year caring for wildlife at Best Friends or similar situation is preferred.  

  • Ability to work with and handle the wide variety of species under our care, including those with health and/or behavior conditions/concerns; ability to identify and speak to medical and behavioral characteristics including medicating, socializing, and performing behavior modification techniques.  

  • Customer-centric, non-judgmental approach to engaging with adopters, partners, visitors, volunteers, and colleagues; familiarity and comfort with an open adoption process. 

  • Resourceful, get-it-done attitude; initiative to assist in any area or process; problem solving, seeking answers independently and enthusiastically; flexibility to persist until lifesaving outcome goals are achieved; demonstrated leadership skills. 

  • Strong interpersonal skills, a team player, personable, professional, and able to get along with people from different backgrounds, as well as the ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations.  

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with well-developed organization skills to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands. 

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products; familiarity with shelter software (Best Friends uses Shelterluv), or desire to learn.   

Physical Requirements: 

  • Daily exposure to wildlife, dogs, cats and other animals of all sizes, temperaments, and medical status. 

  • Perform daily strenuous activity including, but not limited to lifting up to 50 pounds, carrying, reaching, stooping, squatting, cleaning, and bending. 

  • Work at a computer or driving a car for extended periods of time with repetitive typing, sitting, arm, and hand motion.  

  • Work indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions including extreme heat and cold. 

  • Valid driver’s license, ability to qualify to be added to Best Friends insurance, ability to travel, including overnight stays, when needed.     

  • Daily hours and days of the week may vary according to the needs of the department schedule; position includes weekends, nights and holiday work.
