Mollie L.- Honored January 2018

Mollie tell us ...

What BFLA programs/events/volunteer roles do you find yourself participating in?

I volunteer with the cats and kittens. I've also taken part in cat yoga, kitten showers, and mentoring new volunteers.

Why do you choose to volunteer with Best Friends LA?

Before moving to LA, I lived in Ventura and volunteered at their county shelter which is no kill. I really wanted to volunteer with the cats up there, but they had so many cat volunteers, I actually worked with the bunnies instead! Once I moved down to LA, I searched for a no-kill shelter where I could work with cats (sorry bunnies), and NKLA happened to be super close to my house - a win/win. I've become good friends with a couple other volunteers so it's always fun to come in and volunteer with them.

How long have you been a BFLA/NKLA volunteer?

I've been volunteering since the summer of 2015.

What do you do when you're not volunteering?

I work in client services for a great company, TrueCar, and that allows me to travel to some really cool places - Japan and South Korea to name a couple. When I'm not volunteering, you can find me doing yoga, hiking, wine tasting and spending time with my husband Allen, who's actually a dog volunteer at NKLA.

Do you have a favorite story to share about an experience volunteering with Best Friends LA? Share it!

There are so many! I have a soft spot in my heart for the gray paw cat Teddy who essentially grew up at NKLA. He was there for so long and didn't have much interest from any adopters and was a little grumpy (for good reason). He was eventually adopted and now is loving life in West Hollywood and has an Instagram following (check out @teddy_mclovin_).

Do you have any pets?

I have two older lady cats, Chris and Crouton who I rescued about 14 years ago when I first moved to California. They sleep with us every night and are constantly following us around the house wanting to be involved in everything. They're the sweetest!
