It all started when Chris' mother said she wanted to visit Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. They were on vacation in Las Vegas, and at her mother's request, they drove four hours to southern Utah to see the Sanctuary. Immediately, they were both entranced by the Sanctuary and by all the animals who call this place their home between homes.

When Chris' mother passed away, she left instructions for memorial gifts to be sent to Best Friends. Chris followed her mother's example, and has continued to visit the Sanctuary. Devoted to saving animals, Chris even adopted a dog from the Sanctuary, whom she named Pesky (after Johnny Pesky from the Red Sox). She was so impressed by her visits that she decided to include Best Friends in her living trust. "One trip out there and you'll fall in love. It's one of the best places on earth," she said.
