Animal transport in vans following Alabama tornado

Help for the animals after the Alabama tornadoes

Best Friends' disaster response teams are actively working to identify needs to support impacted animal shelters and rescue groups in Alabama. For more on what's happening, stay up-to-date on the Best Friends Facebook page.

What we're doing

Last Thursday, Alabama was ravaged by at least 10 tornadoes - including an EF3 tornado with winds of 140 mph.

These storms caused extensive property damage, injuries and multiple fatalities across the state. Best Friends and several of our partner shelters and rescues immediately leapt into action to help homeless pets in need. After receiving SOS calls from Anniston, Birmingham and Huntsville, we arranged receiving partners in the northeast to move adoptable pets out of impacted communities in order to make space and save resources for displaced animals. Within 24 hours, over 100 animals hit the road to safety!

Thank you to the following organizations and everyone who pitched in to make these lifesaving efforts possible: Paws Crossed Animal Rescue, Ulster County SPCA, Dutchess County SPCA, Lucky Dog Refuge CT, CT Humane Society, Animal Protective Foundation, Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, Pets Alive, Columbia-Greene Humane Society/SPCA and Jersey Shore Animal Center.

We are staying in close contact with our partners and contacts in the region and will continue to support however needed.
