Sharon Kimmel lived a life truly dedicated to those she loved most: her beloved husband David and the animals. Born in Houston in 1955, Sharon met David at school and together they went on to create a family in which fostering homeless dogs and cats was the norm, and rescuing injured and abandoned wildlife was a joyous call to action.

Sharon's profound connection to creatures great and small led her around the world. She traveled to several continents, observing everything from primates to pachyderms in their natural habitats. In her local community in Texas, Sharon also dedicated her life to animals by volunteering in various capacities for the Houston Zoo.

Perhaps the most abundant recipients of her care and affection were her own cats, who were given the royal treatment. And after becoming gravely ill, Sharon began the important process of planning her will. Her careful research led her to discover Best Friends Animal Society, and she concluded that the best charity to donate her legacy to was Best Friends.
