Best Friends Animal Society’s Super Adoption Event is taking place November 2 and 3 from 10 a.m. -4 p.m. at Rose Bowl Stadium. The two-day adoption extravaganza already has 17 local shelter and rescue groups participating with the common goal of saving pet's lives. Now in its 25th year, Best Friends Super Adoption is more important than ever to help make a positive impact on L.A.’s dogs and cats.

Every week, up to 200 dogs and cats unnecessarily die in LA’s city shelters. Best Friends remains committed as a No-Kill Los Angeles (NKLA) Coalition partner to support the city’s at-risk pets. Los Angeles is a special place for Best Friends and the organization has been working in the city for the past 32 years.

“Best Friends has helped LA take the city shelters’ pet lifesaving rate from 57% in 2012 to 89% in 2018, and all the way to 91% in 2020 for dogs and cats combined,” said Julie Castle, CEO, Best Friends Animal Society. “We are deeply dedicated to pets and people who call this city home. Our goal has been, and always will be, to help communities become no-kill."

Since 2012, Best Friends and the NKLA Coalition have increased lifesaving capabilities at LAAS, directly saving more than 90,000 pets in the past 12 years.

Now, to allow for immediate lifesaving and help hundreds of dogs that are currently at risk in the city’s over-capacity shelters, Best Friends has allocated $250,000 to New Hope partners to help them to pull large dogs from LAAS – one of the most at-risk shelter populations. Rescue groups who comply will receive a $500 stipend per dog from Best Friends.

To further their impact, Best Friends has also committed $250,000 toward cat lifesaving. The organization is offering a $250 stipend to partner groups for each kitten under 8 weeks, adult cats over one-year-old, and any medically alerted cats they are able to take-in from LAAS.

“Whether you’re looking to bring love home with a cat or dog, engage with your community, or learn more about how to advocate for lifesaving policies in Los Angeles, Super Adoption is the ideal place to commit to helping LA and the rest of the country reach no-kill,” said Castle.

Best Friends Super Adoption weekend will feature hundreds of adoptable dogs and cats hoping to find loving homes of their own. As an additional commitment to the city’s pets, all animals brought to Super Adoption from city and county municipal shelters will be pulled by rescue groups for immediate lifesaving outcomes.
