Location: Kanab, Utah

Hiring Range: This position’s hiring range is anticipated to be $19.00 to $20.00 per hour, depending on experience, plus great benefits!

Interviews will start the week of May 26th until the position is filled.

Position Summary: This position performs various general labor activities including building and repairing fencing in support of sanctuary operations. This position at times operates equipment, tractors, skid steers, excavators in support of all maintenance activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Works on new fencing, airlocks and gates, repairs existing fencing.
  • Digs trenches, removes snow, tears down buildings and other activities as required.
  • Completes assigned work orders in a timely and professional manner while working with others within the group.
  • Operates, services, cleans, and cares for tools and equipment.
  • Performs a variety of physical labor as assigned.
  • Maintain a safe workplace, valuing and modeling safe work practices, adhering to organizational safety practices and rules, and communicating about unsafe practices and conditions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills & Experience  

  • Foundational knowledge of fence construction, repairs, and maintenance, including airlocks, gates, and visual barriers.
  • Experience using tractors, skid steers, excavators, and other maintenance machinery.
  • Familiarity with workplace safety protocols, including hazard prevention and equipment care.
  • Ability to collaborate closely with teammates, follow team lead instructions, and ensure safe operations around heavy equipment.
  • Experience operating Mini X, Skid Steer, and Backhoe, preferred but not required.
  • Ability to perform basic welding and metalwork for fence reinforcement and repairs, preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Work indoors and outdoors with the ability to perform physical work requiring coordination, agility, strength, and stamina.
  • Work includes heavy lifting (typically up to 100 pounds).
  • Prolonged periods of standing; stooping, reaching, crawling, and climbing; manual dexterity.
  • Work indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions including extreme heat and cold.
  • Willingness to work in varied weather conditions (rain, snow, extreme heat/cold) and take on snow removal duties during the first year.
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting, trench digging, snow removal, and demolition work as needed.
  • Valid driver’s license, ability to qualify to be added to Best Friends insurance, ability to travel, including overnight stays, when needed.
