IT Business Analyst/Project Manager I

Location: Remote

Hiring Range: This position's hiring range is anticipated to be $65,000 to $75,000 annually, depending on experience, plus great benefits!

Interviews will start January 13th and occur weekly until the position is filled.

All staff in Information Technology Services – regardless of their unique position - are expected to perform their assigned duties in a manner consistent with professional standards, with full awareness of responsibilities toward managing personal and organizational data, with priority regard to delivering customer service, as leaders in learning and adapting to new technologies and in constructive and effective collaboration with colleagues.

Summary: The Business Analyst/Project Manager is responsible for improving and maintaining critical business systems and optimizing operational processes as well as managing small to medium level technology and data projects for the organization. This role is responsible for all aspects of business and project analysis, and management for these projects- from collecting and documenting business requirements to ensuring successful, on-time, in-scope, and on-budget delivery. This role collaborates with various internal departments, system and project stakeholders, and vendors to ensure proper alignment to business strategy, budget, and objectives. They provide input and insights to iterate and evolve organizational change management related to processes and projects and provide progress reports to IT leadership and other stakeholder groups as needed. This role will receive necessary guidance, assignments, and support from leadership and senior level project managers to help them be successful in their role.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Business Analysis (60%):

  • Collects and documents requirements, business processes and use cases to ensure system/project meets business needs.

  • Works with business system owners and stakeholders to establish business rules and processes to optimize system processes and maintain data quality.

  • Provides support for critical business systems.

Project Management (40%): 

  • Assists business units in developing project requests with ROI, scope, funding requirements and timeline for approval and prioritization by IT Leadership.

  • Develop project charters and plans specifying goals, strategy, dependencies, staffing, scheduling, risk management/contingency plans, communication plans and allocation of resources.

  • Build the work breakdown structure including scheduled deliverables and project milestones.

  • Manage functional and technology resources towards achievement of project goals and timelines, holding them accountable for deliverables.

  • Manage project risk and issues taking corrective action where required. Report on progress to IT leadership.

Change Management:

  • Develop formal change plans based on project impacts.

  • Assist business units and technology personnel in managing change across the organization.

  • Report on change management progress to IT leadership.

Best Practices:

  • Keep up to date on business analysis/project management and change best practices and put them into practice within the organization.

Administration

  • Weekly meetings, status reports, other duties as assigned.

Skills and Experience:

  • A minimum of 1 year of business analysis experience including gathering detailed business requirements for at least ten small scale or larger projects.

  • A minimum of 1 year of experience managing at least ten small scale or larger information technology projects end-to-end including maintaining appropriate artifacts (charter, critical path analysis, WBS, project schedule, issue/risk log, project reflection/lessons learned, etc.).

  • A baccalaureate degree in business, computer science, information systems or a related field or equivalent experience.

  • Experience with data and analytics projects a plus.

  • Experience with cloud collaboration tools preferred (ex. Asana, Airtable, Trello, Jira).

  • Experience with Docusign a plus.

  • Exposure to formal change management methodologies, e.g., Prosci.

  • Experience with agile methodologies a plus.

  • PMI certification a plus.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to manage stakeholder expectations/exhibit emotional intelligence in business relationships.

  • Ability to translate technical concepts into understandable end user impacts and vice versa.

  • Exhibit integrity and transparency in business conduct.

  • Ability to work independently and to meet deadlines.

  • Willingness and curiosity to learn new skills, systems, and methodologies.

  • Effective meeting management skills for small scale or larger projects (department level), delivering presentations with confidence and professionalism.

  • Willingness to embrace continuous improvement and apply lessons learned to subsequent projects.

  • Experience planning and implementing QA plans for end-to-end projects a plus

  • Ability to engage people and help to form project teams that work well together and collaborate effectively to achieve deliverables.

  • Ability to learn to professionally advocate Best Friends’ mission and position on issues.

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to work at a computer for extended periods of time with repetitive typing, arm and hand motion.
