Location:  Kanab, Utah - Best Friends Roadhouse & Mercantile

Hiring Range:  This position’s hiring range is anticipated to be $15.80 per hour to $18 per hour, depending on experience.

Work Schedule: A part time schedule of Saturday (7 am - 4 pm) & Sunday/Monday (7 am - 5 pm)

Interviews will occur Mondays – Thursdays.

Position Summary: The Roadhouse Ambassador is an integral part of our visitor’s experience, providing product knowledge and ideas while providing excellent customer service. The perfect person for this role is bright, energetic, and great with customers. This person understands the link between our culture, brand promise, and mission as it relates to the products we promote and sell at the Roadhouse Mercantile and the support it brings to the overall mission of Best Friends.  

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:   

  • Roadhouse Mercantile Ambassador demonstrate kindness and the Golden Rule in our everyday actions by practicing inclusion and respect for every person for the value they bring to the table. Be a role model for the spirit of authenticity, kindness and positive influence with each other, our visitors, and volunteers as well as to the animals every day. This includes listening, being present, being supportive of others and demonstrating compassion and curiosity in conflict. 

  • Orders product and assists in setting up and taking down Continental breakfast for Roadhouse guest.  

  • Share product knowledge and answer questions to help facilitate purchases.    

  • Count cash drawer at the beginning or end of the day to ensure accuracy and adequate change and prepare end-of-day cash deposit.   

  • Maintain store appearance by keeping it stocked, cleaned, and organized.  

  •  Process merchandise purchases, exchanges, and returns. 

  • Set merchandise displays, and implementation of strategies to increase sales.   

  • Conduct inventory on a regular schedule. reorder and restock supplies for Mercantile other departments at Roadhouse.  

  • Support Roadhouse Front desk, Sanctuary gift store and Sanctuary Visitor Experience division as assigned.  

 Skills & Experience: 

  • Prior experience working in a retail environment handling transactions such as sales, returns, exchanges and experience with handling cash, accurately managing, and counting cash is required. Experience in visual merchandising is a plus.

  • Customer service experience is required. Active listener with a positive and outgoing approach to engagement with visitors.

  • Ability to communicate with people in a professional and personable way. 

  • Genuine passion for the mission of Best Friends Animal Society. 

  • Effective representative of Best Friends' message of compassion and respect for all living creatures.  

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.  

  • Ability to multi-task and remain focused in a fast-paced and dynamic environment that may have distractions.

  • Detail oriented, organized, and motivated to keep work area clean for visitors and other colleagues.

  • Ability to professionally advocate Best Friends' position on issues. 

  • Self-motivated to keep informed of facts about Best Friends news, events and informational material in order to accurately relay them to visitors. 

  • Strong interpersonal skills, positive attitude, a team player, personable, professional, and able to get along with people from different backgrounds.  

  • Proficient computer skills a must. Microsoft Office systems and Google Docs preferred. Prior experience with POS systems is a plus.

Physical Requirements: 

  • Must be able to perform strenuous physical activity on a daily basis including standing for extended periods of time, sitting, bending, stooping, and kneeling in order to support guest interactions.

  • Ability to work in close proximity of coworkers behind desk.  

  • Lifting up to 50 lbs. 

  • Daily exposure to dogs, cats and other animals of all sizes, temperaments, and medical status. Must be ok with exposure to various animal allergens.

  • Work indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions including extreme heat and cold. 

  • Willing and able to work weekends, evenings, and holidays.

  • Must have a valid driver's license for at least 3 years, ability to qualify to be added to Best Friends insurance, ability to travel and/or drive on behalf of Best Friends, including overnight stays, when needed.
