Location: Kanab, Utah

Hiring Range: This position’s hiring range is anticipated to be $26 per hour to $28 per hour, depending on experience, plus great benefits.

Interviews: Manager interviews will begin the week of March 10th (a recruiter phone screen will occur prior to a manager interview).

Position Summary: This role oversees the day-to-day operations of the Auto Shop, including assigning work orders to mechanics, inventory ordering and control and scheduling and completing repairs in a timely and professional manner. They will cultivate relationships with vendors to ensure procurement of quality equipment, parts and services at competitive prices. The Team Lead ensures proper operation of vehicles and mechanical equipment by inspecting vehicles, determining the mechanical repair needs, performing specified repair and replacing specified parts according to instruction, as well as performing routine vehicle maintenance and inspections.  They advise the Maintenance manager on budget requirements and vehicle maintenance needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversees auto shop day to day operations. Troubleshoots and performs repairs and preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment as needed.

  • Maintain various equipment such as tractors, trucks, cars, vans, buses, golf carts and ATVs.

  • Maintains and repairs heavy equipment.

  • Schedules and organizes work for crew. Training employees in all areas of vehicle repair.

  • Provides time and cost estimates of projects.

  • Oversees scheduled inventory orders and procurement.

  • Works with local dealer Fleet Managers for vehicle and equipment acquisitions.

  • Operates, services, cleans, and maintains tools, equipment and vehicles.

  • Maintain a safe workplace valuing and modeling safe work practices and communicating about unsafe practices.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Experience:

  • Must have five or more years of mechanic experience, including diagnostic and troubleshooting procedures using an automotive diagnostic computer along with online computer repair software.

  • Must have required licenses to operate and service equipment, tools, vehicles, and maintenance equipment skillfully and safely.

  • Previous experience supervising or managing employees is preferred, but not required.

  • Be able to run the auto shop, scheduling of work, ordering of inventory, and updating of vehicle repair records.

  • Preferred to have three or more active ASE certifications in job specific fields.

  • Must have your own tools, toolbox and equipment needed to perform all day-to-day repairs.

  • Must have advanced knowledge of methods, tools, equipment, and practices used in the automotive industry.

  • Work with a positive outlook: upbeat, energetic, and takes initiative.

  • A team player, collaborative, willing and able to learn and teach on the job.

Physical Requirements:

  • Work indoors and outdoors with the ability to perform physical work requiring coordination, agility, strength, and stamina.

  • Work includes heavy lifting (typically up to 80 pounds).

  • Prolonged periods of standing; stooping, reaching, crawling, and climbing; manual dexterity.

  • Valid driver's license for at least 3 years, ability to qualify to be added to Best Friends insurance, ability to travel, including overnight stays, when needed.

  • Work indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions including extreme heat and cold.

  • Daily exposure to dogs, cats and other animals of all sizes, temperaments, and medical status.
