When you open your home to a pet in need for even a few days, you give a homeless cat or dog a safe place to stay while they wait for a bestie of their own — even if that best friend turns out to be you.

By fostering a pet — providing love and care while an animal waits to be adopted — you’re helping to prepare that animal for life in a home and alleviating the burden on shelters. Not to mention all the fun you two will be having in the meantime.

Kittens especially need your help. Every year during spring and summer, kittens arrive in overwhelming numbers at our nation’s animal shelters. But you can save more lives when you foster kittens.

In addition to running the Sanctuary in Kanab and partnering with thousands of shelters and rescue groups, Best Friends operates its own lifesaving centers around the country where homeless pets meet their new human besties every day. All Best Friends locations need caring foster volunteers like you.
