Money – or, more to the point, lack thereof – is often the biggest challenge animal organizations, advocacy groups and other nonprofits face. Is the fervent hope and, indeed, the under-the-breath mantra of your group "show me the money"? The Fundraising Essentials for Everyone Workshop, scheduled for July 21-24, 2011, at the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, in Kanab, Utah, will provide tested and effective strategies for approaching this core objective from a more productive point of view.

A participant in last year’s Fundraising for Everyone seminar commented, "Even knowing just how important our members and donors are to us, I still came into this workshop thinking fundraising – get that money. At the end, I have realized that what it’s really all about is getting that relationship."

Fundraising Essentials for Everyone Workshop can help you!

The 2011 Fundraising for Everyone workshop covers the basics as well as more nuanced aspects of defining and implementing a fundraising program, including campaigning, marketing, grant writing and stewardship. Two of the founders of Best Friends, Jana de Peyer and Anne Mejia, along with the experienced Best Friends staff, including strategic planners, managers of major campaigns, grant writers and grassroots movement experts, will lead workshop sessions.

Whether you are involved with a grassroots or more established organization, the principles, strategies, tips and advice shared in the workshop will undoubtedly prove useful, as evidenced by feedback from 2010 workshop participants:

• "The presenters did a fabulous job discussing their topics in a clear, concise and compassionate way – everyone making it clear that they were working for a time of ‘No More Homeless Pets.’ I received real, tangible tools for implementing seriously needed programs for our organization. I am truly inspired that we can and will achieve our dream. I continue to be blown away by Best Friends’ willingness to share both knowledge and resources and vow to follow the example. Dog Bless Best Friends."

• "I had gone through quite a lot of personal drama before coming to Best Friends. I was jaded, depressed, unmotivated and getting bitter. Being here has not only rejuvenated me, inspired me and motivated me to go home and apply to work and rescue – but it has also lifted my spirit personally. I am feeling the good in people and in myself again. I cannot thank everyone here enough. Words can never truly capture all the emotions and power I have."

• "The workshop was a life-changing experience. It was inspirational and motivational. I … feel that I am better equipped to help our local humane societies face their everyday financial struggles. You and all the presenters this weekend were positive and approachable. The material was presented in a clear and concise manner. Thank you for sharing your ‘secrets’ with us and truly setting an example of what the world can be and should be for animals and humans alike."

• "I have never come away from a seminar feeling as excited as I did. I have gone to seminars before, gathered information and came back not knowing how to use the material. Not this time! I've already sent task lists to our board, staff and volunteers. What great mentors you all are!"

• "One of the most valuable and foundational aspects of my time at Best Friends was the opportunity of a retreat at such a very magical place. Magic and majesty of place, spirit and purpose. It is so easy to become so tangled up in our work every day. This is understandable but we must be on our guard to this since it keeps us apart from our balance and ability to hear and share. Coming to Best Friends allowed the noise of the hectic world to drop away and to have time to reflect and be still with great people in a shared mission of service."
