BENTONVILLE, Ark. (May 20, 2023) – Best Friends Animal Society, a leading national animal welfare organization dedicated to ending the killing of dogs and cats in America’s shelters by 2025, partnered with Baby Doge Coin to break the world record for the most pet food donated in 24 hours. To support necessary efforts to achieve the record, J.B. Hunt Transport Services provided all of the pallet storage and logistics to smoothly weigh and distribute food.

In alignment with National Rescue Dog Day, the record was officially declared on May 20.

“Breaking the record for the most pet food donated in 24 hours in itself is a feat, but what we will be able to accomplish with this massive amount of food is even more meaningful,” said Kristin Switzer, Lead of Philanthropic Partnerships, Best Friends Animal Society. “Saving lives and caring for animals requires costly essentials including food. Through this donation, expenses can be spared for shelters, allowing their resources to go further in other lifesaving capacities. The food donation is first going out to 30 shelters across Arkansas who have driven to the Best Friends Pet Resource Center to receive it. The public will also be able to come and take home food for their own pets.”

The largest donation of pet food in 24 hours is 36750.88 kg (81,021 lb 11 oz), and was achieved by Baby Doge and Best Friends Animal Society (both USA) in Bentonville, Arkansas, USA on 20 May 2023.The donation came in more than 70,000 pounds above the previous record of 4197.5 kg (9,253 lb 14 oz), held by a pet food group UK since 2012.

“Setting the world record for most pet food donated in 24 hours is amazing news for the Baby Doge Community and such a great honor for us to help feed these animals," said a spokesperson for Baby Doge. "Impacting the lives of animals in need is something very close to our hearts. Helping save dogs and giving back is at the core of what we do, and we couldn't be more proud to make this happen.”

Achieving this milestone donation would not have been possible without the generous and continuous support of Baby Doge and Best Friends Animal Society’s food partners Blue Buffalo, Purina, I and Love and You!, and the Trisha Yearwood Pet Collection. Together, their donations brought in more than 70,000 pounds of food with totals amounting to:

  • Blue Buffalo: 32,000 pounds
  • Nestle Purina: 19,800 pounds
  • I and Love and You!: 11,500 pounds
  • Trisha Yearwood Pet Collection: 8,000 pounds

The food was officially weighed and certified on May 19 at a J.B Hunt facility in Lowell, AR. Half of the donation will be transferred to the Best Friends Pet Resource Center in Bentonville to be distributed to shelters and local residents, while the other half will be distributed from the facility’s flex warehouse. Those interested in receiving free food are invited to stop by the Best Friends Pet Resource Center between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. on May 20.

“J.B. Hunt is incredibly grateful for the opportunity to support an organization like Best Friends Animal Society, upholding our commitment to support our communities at a local level,” said David Keefauver, executive vice president of Dedicated Contract Services at J.B. Hunt. “So many of our families here at J.B. Hunt include pets at home, so we’re thrilled with what Best Friends is doing to enhance the lives of pets across the country. J.B. Hunt has committed to providing the organization with $250,000 to help jumpstart overall efforts in Northwest Arkansas.”

The Best Friends Pet Resource Center is located at 1312 Melissa Drive in Bentonville, and is open Monday-Thursday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Friday 10 a.m.-7 p.m., and Saturday-Sunday 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

*In the total count, Blue Buffalo and I and Love and You! also donated cat food and dog treats.
