Saving homeless pets in Brownsville, Texas

You can help build a more compassionate community for dogs and cats in Brownsville.

Last year, hundreds of thousands of homeless pets were killed in communities across the nation — including here in Brownsville — simply because they didn't have safe places to call home.

Best Friends Animal Society and Brownsville Animal Regulation & Care Center (BARCC) are working together to help save the community’s homeless pets through adoption and fostering.

When you give an animal a place to stay — even just for a short time — you'll be saving the life of that animal and freeing up space for another in need.

With your help, we can put an end to the killing of homeless pets and make a positive impact on the lives of cats and dogs not only in Brownsville, Texas, but all around the country.

By fostering, adopting, volunteering, and spreading the word, you'll not only make a lifesaving impact on the lives of cats and dogs here in Brownsville, but you'll also be improving the overall well-being of the community.

Adopt a homeless pet and save lives

When you adopt a dog or cat who’s been patiently waiting for a place to call home, you’re saving a life. You’re also making space in the shelter for other homeless pets in and around Brownsville.

The Brownsville Animal Regulation & Care Center offers same-day adoptions to residents of the Rio Grande Valley and across the border in Matamoros.

The adoption process consists of a short survey and a conversation with a member of the BARCC team to determine which available pet best fits your lifestyle.

All pets are microchipped, are spayed/neutered, have age-appropriate vaccines, and have received recent flea and tick prevention.

The adoption fee for dogs and cats is $99.

Help others cover the cost of pet adoption

We all know how satisfying it feels when you adopt a pet, and you can help others have that same experience when you donate to the Angel Fund.

Your donation to the Angel Fund will go toward a pet’s adoption fee, and you'll earn the status of BARCC Angel.

To make a donation, you can call the BARCC front desk at 956-544-7351 or make a gift online. When donating online, be sure to mention “Angel Fund” in the notes section of the donation form.

Foster: Open your heart and your home to a homeless pet in need

When you foster a dog or cat from BARCC, you’re not only providing a safe and loving place for a pet to learn and grow, but you’re also helping to make room for more animals in the shelter.

You can make a significant impact on the lives of homeless pets by fostering a dog or cat in your home, even if it's only for a short time. BARCC is seeking individuals who are willing to provide temporary care for these animals until they are matched with a home of their own.

If you're new to fostering or looking for a short-term fostering opportunity, you can join BARCC's Club 30 Program.

The Club 30 Program is a club for short-term foster caregivers who help dogs and cats awaiting transport, so the time commitment is under 30 days. When you join, you'll learn about fostering and you'll become a lifesaver in your community. With your help we can give more pets a second chance at having a family of their very own to love.

To become a foster volunteer or join the Club 30 Program, please call 956-544-7351 or email BARCC@Brownsvilletx.gov.
