Location: Remote

Hiring Range: This position’s hiring range is anticipated to be $80,000 to $95,000 annually, depending on experience, plus great benefits!

Interviews will occur weekly until the position is filled.

Summary: We are seeking an exceptional Data Enablement Manager with a strong focus on accelerating business transformation through data governance, master data management and data quality. The Data Enablement Manager will play a pivotal role in developing the governance framework, policies and establishing critical roles to enable efficient and effective use of data in decision-making. As the central leader of data governance throughout Best Friends, this role will collaborate closely with data governance stakeholders throughout Best Friends to ensure policies and processes meet the needs of all data repositories, teams and use cases. This role will also be responsible for maintaining relationships and ongoing communication with leadership and cross-functional teams to align data initiatives with Best Friends’ overall business objectives, ensuring that data supports and accelerates strategic goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Governance

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive data governance program to ensure data quality, integrity, and compliance, as well as access to data and insights by business partners.

  • As the centralized source of data governance for the organization, understand existing procedures and gaps, develop policies and procedures to bridge these gaps, especially where consistency, understandability, and accountability are at risk.

  • Establish data governance strategies, policies, and frameworks aligned with organizational goals and industry best practices.

  • Assist the Insights and Analytics team in defining criteria for project and request acceptance and prioritization to align with the most critical business needs that maximize business value.

  • Lead development and maintenance of a data catalog to enable more federation of analytical responsibilities throughout Best Friends, including documentation like a data dictionary and lineage mapping.

  • Define, maintain and socialize business rules used for communicating operational metrics, calculations, and progress.

  • Ensures data element lineage and other business and technical metadata is well documented.

Data Quality

  • Conduct data quality assessments and implement measures to improve data accuracy, completeness, and consistency for business-critical data.

  • Define indicators of data quality metrics and ensure compliance with data related policies, standards, roles and responsibilities, and adoption requirements.

  • Develop and maintain documentation that supports front-end data quality efforts, including shelter requirements for providing data via API or other automated methods, direct data entry into Shelter Pet Data Alliance, and training and guidance for internal resources supporting shelter stats data entry.

Stakeholder Management

  • Direct the work of a governance analyst, including hiring, coaching and providing ongoing performance management.

  • Lead data governance and stewardship committees including facilitating discussions on data-related initiatives.

  • Define roles and responsibilities related to data governance and ensure clear accountability for stewardship of Best Friends’ principal information assets.

  • Ensure that committees, councils, workgroups, data owners and data stewards have adequate resources to succeed, and are accountable to goals identified for each committee, council or workgroup, role.

  • Lead data governance stakeholders throughout the organization to ensure policies and procedures are consistently implementing best practices, while remaining agile enough to meet business needs efficiently and effectively.

  • Work with senior leadership across business units to implement non-invasive practices that improve availability, quality, and understanding of data elements that lead to analytics that improve business functions.

  • Develop and deliver data governance training and awareness programs.

  • Coordinate with the data engineering Scrum master to ensure strategic and tactical alignment on projects and priorities.  

  • Help lead Mission and Metrics Advisory Team.

 Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent work experience required.

  • 2+ years of industry experience in governance, data quality, master data management or process improvement required.

  • Ability to articulate vision of transformation efforts and a sense of mission.

  • Experience working with all levels of an organization to implement policies and/or practices that require process development and/or culture change.

  • Experience developing, proposing, and executing data governance practices.

  • Knowledge of data cataloging tools and technologies.

  • Experience assessing immediate and long-term business and technology issues related to management of enterprise information assets and approaches related to data protection.

  • Experience implementing programs that require process development and/or culture change.

  • Highly developed skills in priority setting and alignment of project priorities with departmental strategy and business objectives.

  • Ability to break down complex problems and projects into manageable goals.

  • Ability to get to the heart of the problem and make sound and timely decisions to resolve problems.

  • Results orientation, willingness to commit to a direction and drive operations to completion.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage adversity and challenging situations.

  • Experience with products like Tableau, Snowflake, SQL Server, Blackbaud, Shelterluv, Digital Cheetah, and Shopify is required.

 Physical Requirements:

  • Work at a computer or driving a car for extended periods of time with repetitive typing, sitting, arm, and hand motion.

  • Valid driver’s license, ability to qualify to be added to Best Friends insurance, ability to travel, including overnight stays, when needed.
