Location: Kanab, Utah (relocation assistance may be available)

Hiring Range: This position’s hiring range is anticipated to be $20 per hour to $23.20 per hour, depending on experience, plus great benefits!

Schedule: The anticipated schedule for this role is typically Monday - Friday (7 am - 4 pm). On call responsibilities may be required outside of these hours for a period of time.

An onsite interview is required.
 

Position Summary: This position is a combination of operating heavy equipment and grounds maintenance. Employees in this role will operate heavy equipment such as dump trucks, water trucks, tractors etc, as well as perform various general labor activities that support sanctuary operations, including tasks involving drainage and culverts, snow removal, fire prevention, fencing, roads, etc.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on equipment.

  • Digs trenches, removes snow, tears down buildings and other activities requiring heavy equipment.

  • Complete assigned work orders in a timely and professional manner while working with others within the group.

  • Operates, services, cleans, and cares for tools and equipment.

  • Performs a variety of physical labor as assigned.

  • Repairs and installs new fencing.

  • Maintain a safe workplace, valuing and modeling safe work practices, adhering to organizational safety practices and rules, and communicating about unsafe practices and conditions.

  • Limited travel up to 5%.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Experience:

  • Heavy equipment operating skills and experience are highly preferred.

  • Candidate must have a valid and current CDL driver license and medical card. If candidate does not currently hold a valid CDL license, they must be able to qualify and receive one within 6 months of hire – training will be provided.

  • Must have a valid driver's license for at least 3 years, ability to qualify to be added to Best Friends insurance.

  • Advanced knowledge of methods, tools, equipment, materials, and practices used in heavy equipment operations.

  • Work with a positive outlook, upbeat, flexible, energetic, and take initiative.

  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions; read and interpret equipment operations manuals; maintain records.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, a team player, personable, professional, and able to get along with people from different backgrounds, as well as the ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations.

  • Demonstrated resourcefulness, get-it-done attitude to follow-through on areas of responsibility, high degree of reliability, problem solving independently and with others, and the ability to adapt to changing situations and priorities.

Physical Requirements

  • Work indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions including extreme heat and cold.

  • Work includes heavy lifting (typically up to 80 pounds).

  • Noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

  • Prolonged periods of standing/walking; stooping, reaching, crawling, and climbing; manual dexterity, coordination, agility, strength, and stamina.

  • Exposure to dogs, cats, and other animals of all sizes, temperaments, and medical status.
