Hiring Range: This position’s hiring range is anticipated to start at $60,000 annually, depending on experience, plus great benefits!
Position Summary: This leadership position oversees the kitchen team and is a member of the Visitor
Experience team. In addition, this position is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, hiring and coordinating the workers and resources of the Angel Village Cafe department by providing a positive and constructive work environment conducive to conceiving, preparing, and creating healthy vegan lunches, as well as catering all events sanctuary-wide and as requested by external customers. Stabilizing and lowering labor & food costs while finding healthy, fresh, cost-effective, yet gourmet ingredients is of the highest priority.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain a safe workplace by enforcing sanitary practices for food handling, general cleanliness, and maintenance of kitchen and dining areas, valuing and modeling safe work practices, adhering to organizational safety practices and rules.
- Ensuring proper licensing compliance is being met and communicating about unsafe practices and
conditions. - Plan, coordinate, and create healthy vegan menus weekly. Work with the kitchen team to create meals daily and elevate food presentations and guest flow.
- Work closely with all vendors, staff, guests, and founders. Estimate food consumption, place orders with suppliers, and schedule deliveries to be received.
- Train and schedule staff, Be the model for others.
- Provide daily direction and communication to staff. Be available for staff that experience work-related problems, providing appropriate coaching, counseling, direction and resolution.
- Meet all financial objectives by forecasting requirements, preparing an annual budget, monitoring and improving food costs and managing inventories
- Assist in serving all guests during peak lunch period properly, including bussing and pre-bussing tables, refilling drink options when applicable, and keeping the dining room area clean.
- Prioritize incorporating volunteers into our program and welcome and instruct them to do tasks that support the work of the café.
- Interact with visitors, volunteers, and staff in a positive and respectful manner.
- Assure that buffet, salad bar, and drink areas are well stocked and clean always.
- Demonstrate hands-on operational leadership and participate in dishwashing and cleaning tasks as needed to model standards and support team workflow.
- Work on and off-site catering functions when needed.
- Oversee register and vending operations properly with no shrinkage.
- Submit invoices and expense reports in a timely manner.
- Ensure that staff is aware of and working toward OGSP goals
- Escalate significant issues promptly to the Hospitality Services Manager as appropriate.
- 10% Travel may be required to attend trade shows
Skills and Experience:
- Demonstrated leadership and management experience: 5+ years of proven successful experience, including overseeing strategy, operations, budgets, goal setting, mentorship, training and staffing in a high-volume kitchen or restaurant
- Management experience working with 5 or more direct reports
- Highly organized and proactive, with strong follow-up and follow-through skills; able to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to make sound judgments, solve problems effectively, and operate successfully in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products; familiarity with Shopify, Asana, Workday or desire to learn, comfort learning new systems, including online information systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to influence leaders and collaborate with stakeholders across the organization.
- Experience cooking a wide variety of Vegan recipes and willingness to learn new techniques and skills to present the highest standard vegan meals for high volume and low cost.
Physical Requirements:
- Work at a computer for extended periods of time with repetitive typing, sitting, arm, and hand motion.
- Stand for long periods while prepping, cooking and cleaning with repetitive chopping, washing, and bending.
- Work indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions including extreme heat and cold.
- A valid driver's license hours and for at least 3 years, the ability to qualify to be added to Best Friends insurance.
- Scheduled days are Monday-Friday 7am-3pm but are subject to change based on the needs and special events.
