Hiring Range: This positions hiring range is anticipated to be $85,000-$90,000 annually, depending on experience, plus great benefits!
Position Summary: The Senior Strategist, Advocacy Communications develops, cultivates, and supports a consistent and audience-specific messaging strategy on behalf of the Best Friends Advocacy Team. The Senior Strategist, Advocacy Communications leverages both external and internal content to promote awareness and understanding of the Team’s grassroots and legislative work. This position serves as a key creative and content creation role for the Advocacy team.

Essential Duties and Responsibility:

- Craft and implement strategic plans for thoughtful digital outreach designed to engage and mobilize advocates to take action on priority issues. Ensure content is consistent in voice, style, and branding.
- Draft or review content intended to mobilize the public around priority issues in geographic priority areas.
- Manage public-facing legislative action alert content including the sourcing, editing, coding, and distribution of alerts, executing against rigorous time-sensitive deadlines.
- Demonstrate cultural competency and thoughtfulness in all advocacy communications with a focus on creating a diverse and inclusive space for advocates to engage.
- Provide copywriting, proofreading, and editing on both external and internal facing content including (but not limited to) advocacy emails, advocacy website copy, social media campaign assets, presentations, and print-based marketing collateral.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to represent the grassroots advocacy audience and ensure alignment with organizational goals and processes while maintaining advocacy voice and messaging style.
- Serve in a leadership capacity with cross divisional teams across the org to represent advocacy communications and team goals.
- Oversee digital communications to the Action Team including evergreen updates and calls to action, content designed to elevate and mobilize our advocates, and amplifying internal campaigns and messaging in geographic priority areas.
- Report and interpret key advocacy outreach metrics including email and action alert performance, working closely with team to adapt future messaging accordingly.
- Ensure Advocacy Team content is on-brand and consistent in terms of style, quality, and tone of voice. Be a steward of best practices in messaging and grammar.
- Compile, draft, and distribute monthly team reports to elevate internal knowledge of Best Friends’ advocacy initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to improve and streamline existing content and alert processes, creating new guidelines and SOPs where applicable.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Experience:
- Minimum of three years’ experience in distributed or digital organizing or campaigning (distributed campaign technology and advocacy or political organizing experience strongly preferred) or combination of experience and pertinent degrees (BA/BS/MA/MS)
- Hands-on experience with CMS and digital organizing tools including Drupal, ControlShift, Mailchimp, Hubspot, and Quorum. Other digital engagement platform experience a plus. Knowing some basic HTML/CSS also a plus. Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
- Demonstrated experience in copywriting, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Project management experience, including managing projects, business relationships with internal clients, external vendors, solution providers and contractors.
- Strong analytical skills with experience defining, measuring and testing digital metrics (email, social, web, etc.).
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively, build positive relationships, and manage conflict constructively.
- Ability to operate at a hands-on detailed level in addition to strategic thinking.
- Ability to anticipate needs, innovate, multi-task and excel in a fast paced, rapidly changing environment.

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work at a computer and/or on the phone for extended periods of time with repetitive typing, arm and hand motion.
