Why we’re joining forces to help feed dogs and cats

The dogs and cats at Best Friends receive the very best care — and that begins with proper nutrition to help them heal, grow, and thrive.

Thanks to the incredible generosity and dedication of our friends at Blue Buffalo, every dog, cat, puppy, and kitten in our care is treated to high-quality food and tasty treats. In fact, Blue Buffalo provides over 500,000 pounds of food each year, helping to nourish pets on their journey to new homes. We’re beyond grateful for Blue Buffalo’s unwavering support and commitment to the health and happiness of homeless pets.

But this partnership goes beyond great food — it’s about changing lives. Together, we’re ensuring that homeless dogs and cats not only have full bellies but also a real chance at a brighter future. When pets are treated like family, they get the love, care, and second chances they truly deserve.

How our partnership with Blue Buffalo provides nutritious meals and second chances for homeless pets

Together with Blue Buffalo, we’re raising awareness of pet adoption and making sure that every pet finds the loving home they deserve. When we work together, we’re not just feeding pets — we’re fueling futures. Thanks to Blue Buffalo, every dog and cat at Best Friends has access to wholesome, natural nutrition so they can look and feel their best.

As our official pet food and treats partner, Blue Buffalo provides food and treat donations to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, our lifesaving centers, satellite locations, and foster homes. With their support, every dog and cat in Best Friends’ care will receive the nourishment they need on their journey to new homes.

But the love doesn’t stop there. When pets get adopted, their new families will receive a free bag of Blue Buffalo food and treats, giving them the perfect start to their new lives together.

Together, we can make every shelter and community no-kill

Last year, hundreds of thousands of dogs and cats were killed in shelters around the country just because they didn’t have safe places to call home.

But it doesn’t have to be that way.

That’s why we’re working tirelessly with animal shelters, rescue groups, and individual community members to help at-risk pets right where they live. No-kill is within reach thanks to dedicated animal lovers like you.

About Best Friends Animal Society

Best Friends is working to end the killing of dogs and cats in U.S. shelters in part by getting more pets out of shelters and into loving homes.

We’ve come a long way since the first known city reached no-kill in 1994, and now we’re closer than ever to making the entire country no-kill. Today, roughly 2,500 shelters are no-kill throughout the U.S. — and 700 more are just 100 pets or fewer away from reaching that milestone.

Best Friends is committed to working with passionate people like you to save homeless pets through adoption, volunteering, fostering, and advocacy. In addition to our lifesaving centers around the U.S, we also founded and run the nation's largest no-kill sanctuary for companion animals.

Working together, we can save homeless pets in our communities and secure a better future for our best friends. Together, we will bring the whole country to no-kill.

More about Blue Buffalo

Blue Buffalo began with a promise — a promise the Bishop family made to their beloved dog Blue, who battled cancer. Determined to give him the best nutrition possible, they searched for high-quality pet food but came up short. Instead of settling, they took matters into their own hands, creating something better — not just for Blue but for pets everywhere.

With the help of veterinarians and animal nutritionists, Blue Buffalo has stayed true to its mission for more than 20 years, carefully selecting high-quality, natural ingredients and standing by their True Blue Promise: real meat first with no poultry byproduct meals; no corn, wheat, or soy; and absolutely no artificial flavors or preservatives.

The result? A wide range of high-quality, natural food and treats that Blue himself would be proud of. The Bishops’ simple idea to feed pets like family lives on today in every Blue Buffalo recipe, as does their love for Blue.
