Best Friends and Fox Entertainment team up to help homeless cats

Do cats hold a special place in your heart? Would you describe yourself as a cat person? If so, you're in good company. Best Friends is excited to partner with FOX to celebrate a new television series, Call Me Kat.

The show stars longtime Best Friends supporter Mayim Bialik as Kat, a 39-year-old single woman who decides to spend her life savings to open a cat café in Louisville, Kentucky. And there's even more to celebrate: FOX has generously pledged to donate $25,000 to help save the lives of homeless cats across the country.

Help save homeless cats

The cats featured in Call Me Kat are lucky - they're TV stars with loving families. But in real life, more than 1,000 dogs and cats were killed every day in 2023 in shelters around the country, simply because they didn't have safe places to call home.

About two-thirds of the animals killed in shelters are cats. But if we work together, we can save more lives by:

  • Promoting pet adoption: By encouraging people to adopt rather than buy their pets, we can help increase the number of pets leaving shelters.
  • Supporting spay/neuter: By promoting spay/neuter and providing low-cost resources wherever they are needed, we can help decrease the number of animals entering shelters.
  • Helping community cats: To keep community cats (stray or free-roaming cats) safe, healthy and out of shelters, we support trap-neuter-return (TNR) programs in municipalities around the country.
