Keeping you safe at the Best Friends National Conference

Updated on May 18, 2022 – this page is the sole source of Covid-19 protocol as it relates to the Best Friends National Conference

Your health and safety at Best Friends National Conference is our top priority, and our recommendations below are made in accordance with current guidelines from relevant public health entities including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Wake County Health & Human Services and the city of Raleigh, North Carolina.

Best Friends Animal Society strongly encourages all conference participants to:

  • Be fully vaccinated, including a booster shot if applicable, before attending the event. For more information on vaccinations, visit the CDC website.
  • Take a Covid-19 test no more than 48 hours prior to traveling to the event to ensure that they are negative before arriving in Raleigh.
  • Wear a face mask over mouth and nose at all indoor conference gathering spaces and events (including any event hosted in conjunction with sponsors and/or exhibitors) at all times when you are not eating and drinking if you are unvaccinated. 

While at the event, all participants should:

  • Use hand sanitizer and wash your hands frequently
  • Follow any physical distancing guidelines
  • Follow any additional guidance and regulations imposed by Raleigh Convention Center and the contracted hotels, regardless of whether federal, state, or local laws dictate the use of these practices. These regulations may become more or less strict at any time between now and the conference date, due to circumstances beyond Best Friends Animal Society’s control.

Should you become ill during or after the conference, you agree to:

  • Immediately contact the Best Friends National Conference team at conferences@bestfriends.org.
  • Refrain from further conference participation and remain in your hotel room or the designated quarantine area until you can return home.
  • Notify the Best Friends Conference team of other participants that you were in close contact with.
  • Keep Best Friends Animal Society informed of your diagnosis, participate in contact tracing and agree to the notification of public health authorities.

Participants can anticipate the following safety protocols at the Best Friends National Conference:

  • Routine cleaning and disinfecting of shared surfaces as part of the Raleigh Convention Center’s COVID cleaning protocols.
  • Additional masks available
  • Hand sanitization stations throughout the Raleigh Convention Center
  • Information provided through various mediums promoting healthy habits that include washing hands, practicing social distancing, avoiding shaking hands and proper mask placement.

If you have tested positive for COVID-19, are waiting for COVID-19 test results, have COVID-19 symptoms (such as cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, fever, chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, or new loss of taste or smell), or have had close contact with a person who has tested positive for or who has symptoms of COVID-19, please stay home.

Best Friends National Conference health and safety protocols are subject to change as regulations and guidelines from local, state, and federal agencies evolve.

Participant understands and agrees that an inherent risk of exposure to communicable disease exists in any location where people are congregated including, without limitation, the space in which the conference is hosted. Participant acknowledges that these risks may result from or be compounded by the actions, omissions, or negligence of Best Friends’ employees or others.
