Meet Hula, a warm and cuddly companion who quickly makes himself at home wherever there’s a soft blanket nearby. This curious boy enjoys quietly exploring his surroundings and checking in on everyone in the house before settling in for his favorite activity — a cozy nap. Hula loves to curl up next to his person while they relax, watch TV, or play video games, and he’s always happy to share some gentle cuddles. Hula is also quite the communicator! He’s known for having different meows for different needs, whether he’s asking for food, attention, or a little cuddle time. While he enjoys affection and companionship, he also appreciates having short moments to himself to recharge. With his calm nature, loving personality, and adorable habit of giving little “hugs,” Hula is ready to bring comfort and companionship to a lucky home. Best Friends is working to end the killing of dogs and cats in U.S. shelters in part by getting more pets out of shelters and into loving homes.

We’ve come a long way since the first known city reached no-kill in 1994, and now we’re closer than ever to making the entire country no-kill. Of the roughly 3,900 shelters operating in America today, 1,300 of them are not yet no-kill, but nearly half are close with 100 or fewer additional pets to be saved, and we know what to do to get them there.
