Meet Gretchen — Coming Soon! Gretchen is currently on a big adventure and won’t be cruising into the adoption center for about a week. We don’t know a ton about this traveling buddy just yet, but that’s all part of the fun—we get to learn about them right alongside you! As they make their way here, we’ll share any little tidbits the transport team notices. And once Gretchen arrives and settles in, we’ll discover even more about their personality, preferences, and all the adorable quirks that make them one-of-a-kind. Keep an eye out for updates—Gretchen is on the move, and we can’t wait to learn (and share!) more of their story as it unfolds.

Best Friends is working to end the killing of dogs and cats in U.S. shelters in part by getting more pets out of shelters and into loving homes.

We’ve come a long way since the first known city reached no-kill in 1994, and now we’re closer than ever to making the entire country no-kill. Of the roughly 3,900 shelters operating in America today, 1,300 of them are not yet no-kill, but nearly half are close with 100 or fewer additional pets to be saved, and we know what to do to get them there.
