Financial assistance for pets in Los Angeles

Application guidelines and requirements differ widely for each program below, so please carefully consider the application process for each program before applying. 

Actors & Others for Animals: Medical assistance for animals determined by need and care required. Applications must be submitted online. 

Animal Health Foundation: The foundation provides animal services through information about grants to help with veterinary care for those in financial need in Los Angeles and Orange counties.  

Assistance Dog Partners: For emergency veterinary care for service dogs only and must be contacted by your vet. 

Bow Wow Buddies: Provides help for sick and injured dogs by funding urgent medical care and aiding with veterinary bills for serious conditions.  

Brown Dog Foundation: For those who have no money immediately available for the care of cats and dogs that are sick or injured and would respond to treatment. 

CareCredit: CareCredit is a healthcare credit card designed for your health and wellness needs for you, your entire family, and your pets. 

Dylan’s Heart: Must be requested through your attending veterinarian for a life-threatening or critical injury or illness with a favorable outcome with care and the owner must be on a form of government aid. 

FACE Foundation: Provides financial support to low-income families, senior citizens, veterans, military families, people experiencing homelessness, students, disabled individuals, and families whose pets need immediate medical care. 

Friends & Vets Helping Pets: For applicants in financial need for their pet’s curable diseases such as tumors, broken bones, ambulatory care, expensive medication, or post-surgical prosthetics. 

Handicapped Pets Foundation: The Handicapped Pets foundation is dedicated to the health and well-being of elderly, disabled, and injured pets. We donate wheelchairs to pets in need. 

Help-A-Pet: provide financial assistance nationwide for the medical care of pets whose owners are unable to afford the expense. Help-A-Pet specifically aids physically and mentally challenged individuals, senior citizens, and children of the working poor. 

Hope Mending Hearts: Financial assistance grants so pet owners, Good Samaritans and rescuers can care for animals who need urgent veterinary care The 

Magic Bullet Fund: Cancer-specific help for families with dogs that have cancer but can’t afford treatment. 

Molly’s Hope: providing the necessary financial assistance for emergency medical  treatment in efforts to prevent financially driven euthanasia.

The Mosby Fund:  For vet-confirmed critical situations that are non-basic and non-urgent. 

Onyx and Breezy Fund:  Assistance with financial aid for medical treatment, medication, pet food, and spay and neuter surgeries with proof of low income/need. 

Paws 4 a Cure: Helps dogs and cats with injuries and illnesses, grants tend to be small and do not exceed $500. 

Pet Assistance Inc.: Helps long-time pet owners with financial aid for urgent or life-threatening emergencies only. 

The Pet Fund: The Pet Fund works only on non-basic, non-urgent care such as cancer treatment, heart disease, chronic conditions, endocrine diseases, eye diseases, etc. 

Pets of the Homeless: A resource center for pet food assistance, wellness clinics, and emergency veterinary care. For emergency vet care, call 775-841-7463 to see if you qualify. 

Red Rover: Provides grants around $200 for situations where urgent care is needed for a pet 

RUFF: Provides financial assistance for veterinary care when owners are unable to afford it. They also offer assistance for spay and neuter procedures. 

The Shakespeare Animal Fund:  Small grants of between $50 and $100 typically to people on a fixed income or with annual incomes below the federal poverty guidelines. 

STARelief & Pet Assistance: Provides financial assistance ranging between $100-500 for emergency medical care, emergency boarding or foster care, spay and neuter services, routine medical care, and end-of-life services. 

Voice for the Animals Foundation: Their Helping Friends Program helps seniors, people with disabilities, terminal illnesses or fixed incomes take care of their pets.

Waggle.org: Waggle is a crowdfunding platform for individuals and organizations lacking the funds to cover essential veterinary treatment.
