A second-generation co-founder, Mark Ebbs began his career at Best Friends as a teenager.

His mother, Vivian Ebbs, is a co-founder of Best Friends. And like her, Mark tackled whatever job needed doing on any particular day, whether it was animal care or construction.

In time, Mark also began to do vehicle maintenance, helping to keep Best Friends’ finicky fleet of old trucks, cars, and a tractor running. But eventually, Mark shifted to computer support and the IT department, where for 18 years he helped staff solve computer problems and make software upgrades. He then returned to the canyon operations division and joined the safety team as a safety specialist

In addition, Mark is also a member of the Canyon Oversight Committee, a team of founders and senior staff who review all construction and land management projects to ensure that they fit within Best Friends’ guiding principles with regard to preserving and protecting the land, trees, water, and wildlife in Angel Canyon, home of the Sanctuary.
